Controversy
Casa Pia children's guinea pigs in scientific experimentation
by DN.PTToday
500 children were students of Casa Pia, over eight years, guinea pigs in a controversial scientific experiment carried out by Portuguese researchers after an invitation from the University of Washington, USA, made in the School of Dental Medicine, University of Lisbon. This matter is the subject of a report to be transmitted today at 21:00 on RTP1.
According to what was advanced yesterday and today in TV News in Jornal da Tarde, both of RTP1, these 500 children were used in experiments whose objective was to discover the effect of mercury in the 'lead' of the teeth and if it caused motor disorders, in memory, attention, concentration and nervous system.
According to some experts who spoke to the state television station, the "Mercury is very toxic."
The participation of children in these experiments was known to the authorities who allowed eight years to submit to tests, as explained by one of the experts polled by RTP, "had never even been done in animals." The invitation of the American university was made in 1996 and the lowest were between 8 and 10 years in the early tests. Some of these children reached the end of the tests with 16 teeth 'bolted'.
The justification for resorting to this group on a trial is justified by the fact that children are considered the best vehicle to test the effects of a substance on health.
The contours of this controversial issue will be known in detail in the "Special Information" transmitted by the journalist author of the research, Rita Marrafa Oak.

in my opinion, those who should be used in those experiments are paedophiles, rapists, etc.

Where is the duty of care to protect those in their charge?
Yes Pedro, this is child abuse. It is despicable.
And that university, they most likely couldnt get children to poison in the US, so went and found some corrupt people in Portugal.
How much money was paid, and to whom was it paid? I hope the report looks at that. Corruption must always be exposed, no matter how long ago it happened.
