Jeremy Vine on Radio2, internet hate sites.

Jeremy Vine, on his chat show, asks if most people who leave comments on news websites are mostly hatefull. Well, I think we all know the answer to that! You have to listen past the news and the first track by Blondie, then it's the first topic. You will be staggered to hear an American saying that freedom of speech means it's perfectly acceptable to libel someone, and hear how Jeremy and his other guest tear him a second butthole. The suffering of the McCann's is held up as an example.

Certainly American Law is a bit more lax in the freedom to express an opinion, but it seems to be related more to celebrities and does not allow total untruth.
People tend to skirt around the actual telling of a lie, and it is difficult to refute, "I think this could have happened", when there is an absence of evidence to the contrary, although I suspect that outrageous suggestions would not be allowed.
But of course, The McCanns are not celebrities as they did not initially court media attention, and only accepted assistance in their search for their daughter.
Outside of big corporations I have been unable to discover how anyone can be forced to pay Damages Internationally. Britain to America or the other way around.
