jean wrote:STORY TIME .... Bent copper, in trouble with money, needs money pretty sharpish, knows someone who wants pretty little girl, has photos taken of one matching requirements, has contacts in Ocean Club, arranges for watch to be kept on family, arranges the abduction of little girl, easy peasy, gets paid lots of euros. Now he is a suspect the authorities have to question the bent copper, put a great deal of pressure on him to find out where the little girl is. This man has a lot of secrets that have to be gotten out of him because by all accounts he has done this before!!!
Chapter 2
Bent corrupt copper, pays other bent corrupt coppers in his pocket, pays a big bald policeman to watch little blonde girl, playing with her daddy in the park and observe movements of daddy and mummy with their children.
Bent copper has just the right apartment in mind, which is on the corner and has easy access, even if patio doors are locked, it doesn't matter, as bent copper has obtained a key.
One day a lovely family comes to stay in the apartment and being on holiday, rested and relaxed and having a lovely time, the family feel safe and secure and think it is OK to leave kiddies while they dine just a short distance away.
Bent corrupt copper is also in pocket of influential businessmen and helps them with shady deals. Local businessmen from monied families have connections all over the world and love to deal in all manner of different things, lovely new leather coats, expensive bottles of wine, why even a child adoption racket.

Re: Amaral Has New Jag Confiscated!
How do we know that his money problems are from gambling? Is there something in that article that indicates this?
I have even reread it, but cant see the reference.
He could have had money problems from any number of things, such as poor investments, living beyond their means, and yes, even gambling. I just dont see where the article says what caused his money problems, althought it is very clear they are in money problems. Can someone please explain it for me???

Diane, I think there's been past rumors and whispers that Amaral likes to gamble and even owns a share of a racetrack in Portimao.

Re: Amaral Has New Jag Confiscated!
Diane
Amaral was wearing Hugo Boss before he left PJ. It is very easy to get in financial trouble just for doing that in this country, I mean living above their means. Another reason, which actually highly contributed to bring this country to its knees, is people evading taxes. And we were very weak before 2003/2004 at detecting and punishing the evaders. At that date it became possible to verify the prior 5 years and that could be the very reason why he got in trouble with the taxman.
These reported problems with banks and taxes are very easy to confirm, you just need to request a document from the 'building registry' (sorry, don't know your counterpart name), you will immediately know the story of the building, if it changed hands and why, while for simply money lended by a bank without mortgaging a house this would be registered at Banco de Portugal, and the information available to any financial company.
And I don't see Expresso making unfounded accusations. Afteral, Amaral discovered that libel and defamation has no more a free go in this country, Expresso knows that and that if it was not true they could be sued for a quite high amount.

Re: Amaral Has New Jag Confiscated!
I believe police officers are not allowed to gamble at casinos and probably bookmakers (which are illegal here anyway). But they probably are NOT prevented of 'gambling' at the stock exchange. They certainly can participate in the capital of companies not registered at the stock exchange, as would be the case of the Algarve Race Course and that golf course. This is a quite expensive and risky way of gambling.
But on second thoughts. Amaral's ethics is one of that category that allows a cop to do illegal things! He could well be involved in illegal gambling or gambling illegally.
I'm a complete ignorant in these matters and only know about what surfaces on the papers. Apparently, the 'in' game here now is the 'bubble'. One guy starts it, finds for instance six friends who pay him a given amount of money. Then each of these six guys find another (six) guys who pay each one of them a certain amount, aimed at recovering whatever they paid the first guy and make some extra money. And the game goes on with the (36) finding each one another (six) who pay them, etc. The 'bubble' blows up when there is someone who can't recover the money, either because it is a very large amount or he doesn't have 'enough' friends interested in the game. Obviously the outside 'ring' go bust (you probably know more about that than me, sorry...). Not long ago the police invaded a property near Porto where they found around 700 people, rich ones, and seized an undisclosed amount of millions of euro in cash along with an astonishing 'collection' of jewels. Of course, they were NOT jailed. The police action was triggered by an anonymous phone call saying that there were signs of people being robbed at that property.

Re: Amaral Has New Jag Confiscated!
Doesn't it strike everyone as weird in a funny sort of way that while Amaral tried so hard to destroy the reputation of parents of a missing child (Drs. McCann and Healey) - his reputation is now being shredded to tatters?? I'm sure he'll find a way to blame his latest fiasco on the McCanns.

Yes it does Calcite.
But he didn't bank on Kate not being stupid enough to fall for his threats.
I wonder if they have confiscated his earring? It was supposed to be worth 10 grand, that would help pay his legal fee's

Hi Calcite, I think this is called 'Karma'! Looks like it has started to bite Amaral on his amply padded backside to me!

I wish I could trust the judiciary in Portugal to deal with this man. Do you think they will, given their track record.

I hope Amaral's reputation continues to be destroyed and that he ends up safely behind bars where he belongs.

Re: Amaral Has New Jag Confiscated!
taken from PAF2 and Precious
Anyone seen this?
The house in Olhao bought by Amaral and his wife in 2002 with a loan from BIC but only registered in Sophia´s name was siezed in 2005 due to debt of 130,000 euros. In 2006 the National Treasury records a seizure on the house as a guarantee of 169,000 euros. Finally in 2007 BES (now BIC) initiates action against Amaral and his wife for recovery of in excess of 300,000 euros - now siezed.
Amaral and wife are serious mortgage defaulters.

They lived rent, or mortgage free, in that house for nearly five years before they were finally evicted. So, the house move that the lovely Sofia complained about in her charming letter to Kate, was in fact a forced eviction.

It's fine to do so Rosemary, just provide the link as a courtesy to PFA. However, I think this may be what Pedro so kindly translated for us the other day, which starts this thread off, but it can't hurt to have it again further down the thread, it gives people a chance to re read it.
