EMAILS IN MADELEINE INVESTIGATION TO REMAIN SECRET
Emails in Maddie hunt stay a secretBy KATHRYN LISTER
Published: 13 Apr 2009
EMAILS relating to the hunt for missing Madeleine McCann are to remain secret over fears they could offend the Portuguese authorities.
A request under the Freedom of Information Act asked for disclosure of emails and a letter sent between the British ambassador and Portuguese police in the weeks after Maddie vanished.
The Foreign Office initially released some information, but the rest was held back under a special exemption to protect international relations.
The anonymous applicant for more information appealed, arguing it was in the public interest.
But the Information Commissioner refused, saying disclosure could offend Portuguese authorities, harm the hunt for Maddie and cause “substantial” damage to international relations.
It is believed the request was rejected because some letters are critical of the investigation by Portuguese cops.

Wonder what it could possibly be in these emails that the Portuguese authorities are so scared of? Obviously something that is scaring them! No matter though, eventually it will leak out it always does!
I look forward to reading them Mr Amaral! Hopefully Kate and Gerry will shed some light on this when they appear on Oprah!
Perhaps our next aim should be to put pressure on our government to reveal this emails?
I believe they are in the public interest, because many people holiday in Portugal, if there is something they need to know about that country in order to protect their children/family, then it should be made public.
Above all this is in Madeleine McCann's interest!

I wonder if these emails are subject to the Freedom of Information act, so at some point will be released into the public domain?

Re: EMAILS IN MADELEINE INVESTIGATION TO REMAIN SECRET
The request was made for the email under the FOI Act, and was rejected. So at some point they will be released, when they no longer pose a danger to international relations.
I can only assume that the emails were pretty scathing over the Portuguese handling of the investigation, but who knows.
Even if Madeleine were found, the emails may not be released for some time, as the same danger to international relations would still exist for quite a long period of time.

Doesn't seem right to me, if there is a problem it should be publicised, after all Amaral was pretty quick to make his sad pathetic bizarre theories known. It seems the Portuguese authorities want everything their own way and if things were that bad that they are scared of a few emails coming out, perhaps the answer would be to actually do something about it? They could start with hauling Amaral in for questioning and also from preventing the fat pig making money out of a child he failed, this would have been a start!
