Dr Who and Goncalo Amaral. The comparison ...

For our non-British friends, Dr Who is a science fiction programme for children in which the good doctor pits his wits against and (of course!) always outwits various dark forces of evil (such as the Daleks or the Cyder Men) who threaten to engulf and destroy the world. Thing is, though, that the doctor only ever outwits them and puts them to flight so that they can re-group and fight again another day. He never actually destroys them. And the reason is, I think, obvious. If he destroyed them, the script-writers would be forced to invent new forces of darkness for the good Dr to defeat.

So, have you spotted the comparison, yet? Well, Amaral has it that the forces of darkness (aka the establishment) have scuppered his case-busting initiative that would have cracked this case and put the evil Kate and Gerry where they belong, in jail. Except that, according to the word of the same Dr Amaral, they've not done a very good job, because, well, because ... Oh! Let the verbatim words of our hero (from an interview) fill in the gap ...

There were 9 people in this Holiday Group. Maybe they do not know that the girl is dead, but they could have received instructions about what to say, such as "you went to the room and you saw the girl", however they know that this is not true. By that means the case could be re-opened; one day the full truth could be known.

Erm, you know, if the establishment does a hatchet job, it does a hatchet job! Doesn't it? There are never any half-measures. Surely ...?

A good comparison. But the real difference between the Doc and the Gonc is that the Doc works for the good of mankind and the galaxy, he also doesnt make any money from what he does. Another striking difference is that the honesty principle, the Doctor doesnt have a need to lie or to justify his position or his actions.
