Lack of evidence.
After reading this, it begs the question just what was in the files, and just what was discovered during this investigation.
Very little it seems. I get the feeling, that the concentration was on Kate and Gerry and very little else.
KATE and Gerry McCann have been hit by a new blow after it emerged that police case files had fewer clues than they hoped about missing daughter Maddie.
The couple, both 40, hoped trawling through the documents could hold the key to finding her.
But among the files – made public in August – was a prosecutor’s report saying the investigation had uncovered “very little” conclusive about the youngster’s disappearance.

Hi.
They apparently wrote some 20 000 pages. Casa Pia process, which took more than three years to prepare to take to court, has some 50 000 pages.
I'm sure you have a similar expression, only I don't know which it is: when someone has to write or answer to some question and doesn't know what to say but does not shut up, we say he 'is feeding us hay (or straw)'. In 9 months, 20 000 pages about an investigation can only be straw.

Re: Lack of evidence.
Maria,
We have a few sayings about that, but it seems that there are an awful lot of pages telling nothing.

Re: Lack of evidence.
Does it make you wonder what did NOT make the files, but made the waste bin?
This is all the more reason why Goncalo Amaral MUST be brought in for official questioning and a full and open, independent public inquiry held into this investigation.
I have a feeling that all the relevant information "that was allowed" to make the files, if collated properly would extend to several pages of A4 and nothing more!
How much has conveniently been forgotten about? Did any links come up 'suggesting' links to Joana Cipriano? Knowing the political hot potato this would turn into, with the same person in charge of both cases, can we trust that if any such links were uncovered these were properly reported and investigated?
This was always my fear, as soon as I learned about Goncalo Amaral's involvement in 'both' cases and that the finger of suspicion was pointing Amaral's way over allegations of torture and cover up in the case of Leonor Cipriano, if anything of this nature did come up, what would happen to it? Would it be fully investigated, knowing the dire consequences that would arise, should any link be proven and Joana was NOT killed by her mother and uncle?
How on earth can the Portuguese police and government have allowed Goncalo Amaral anywhere near any case? He should have been suspended from duty while investigations were being carried out, instead astonishingly, he was put in charge of the Madeleine case and all the 'golden hours' were lost as well as the most important part of the investigation and now we are asked to believe that hardly any information came in regarding Madeleine?
This is just one reason why a public inquiry MUST be held, into the incompetent investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine.
Poor Madeleine what chance did she have, with these incompetent bunglers?
Portugal needs to do something, 'before' this happens to another child!
