THE police team who found hoax kidnap victim Shannon Matthews are to probe Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.

West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) will study Portuguese police files.

Madeleine’s doctor parents Kate and Gerry, both 41, are said to be “delighted’’ at the move. It follows a meeting with Home Secretary Alan Johnson at which they begged him to relaunch the official search for their daughter.

He asked the Child Exploit-ation Centre And Online Protection Centre to appoint a new investigating force.

They have called in HMET, whose officers found Shannon, then aged nine, alive 24 days after she vanished in Dewsbury, West Yorks, in February 2008.

Detectives worked out her disappearance was a plot to claim reward money dreamed up by her mum Karen, 34, and stepdad’s uncle Michael Donovan, 40, who were jailed for eight years Portuguese and British police forces have been at odds since Madeleine vanished from her family’s Algarve holiday apartment in May 2007, days before her fourth birthday.

A source told the Daily Star: “It’s hoped we can clear the decks and start over again.”

The case was archived as unsolved in July 2008, and the McCanns, of Rothley, Leics, have had to hire private detectives to search for her.

I just hope this is true, Kate and Gerry deserve some good news at long last.

I bet Goncalo Amaral and Ricardo Paiva have sent out for extra supplies of toilet tissue, they wont be able to get off the loo, they know they will now get found out.

Seems that all our lobbying has at least helped, I hope this means they get the complete review and I also hope that Portugal now cooperates and between them they can make some progress, please God. One thing Ricardo Paiva needs to be suspended, he should not be allowed anywhere near this investigation.

I think the answer lies with the result of the Goncalo book trial. Imagine if the Mccann¨s had lost that. It´s all politics politics politics.

That's also the force who were involved with Hewlett and who went to Germany to question him on other child related cases.
When he did not agree to speak to the PIs, the German police would not allow anyone near him to question him over Madeleine's disappearance unless requested by an official police force. I wonder if that will now happen.

IWTT "PRESSURE"! This is why now, as why not a long time ago, ask Ricardo Paiva and Goncalo Amaral, they were frustrating this investigation and perverting the course of justice.

When the brilliant Dra Isabel Duarte discovered the existence of the "Irrelevant" Paiva File, she slowly but surely turned the screw on Amaral and Paiva and the world's press then got on board.
Some of the British press got hold of a copy of the "Irrelevant" files and began publishing information, sightings and leads, that the PJ had ignored, many of them coming into the inquiry AFTER it was shelved. Despite assurances from the Portuguese attorney general that the case could be re-opened if new information emerged. The number one question became "How could the case be re-opened if people like Paiva were deliberately ignoring new information? Not even reading it in most cases, but just stuffing it into this huge file? It lead to questions of corruption and total incompetence.

So Kate and Gerry were able to use this and speak to the home secretary Alan Johnson and point out to him that how could this be a Portuguese lead investigation, when the PJ were not even looking at the information? I think the McCanns were at last able to get it through to Johnson, what we on this forum and many others on other forums have been saying all along "THERE IS NO PORTUGUESE INVESTIGATION".
Many of us on here have been and still are actively lobbying to get the investigation re-opened, to get a specialised team from the UK to head it and for the team to be able to use Scotland Yard's technology "Holmes". We have also been calling for the British home secretary to liaise with Portugal to get a Portuguese team together to work with a British team of detectives TOGETHER, to carry a complete review of the investigation. If this happened, I agree with Gerry McCann, if we can manage to get a review, the case would not need to be re-opened because the case would become active again anyway.
The case just being re-opened is not really going to do much, it would just ramble on as before until the PT attorney general closed it again, what is needed is a comprehensive review of the entire case and it being taken right back to square one.

This is why Amaral is scared, this is the very last thing he wants, he knows that once this is done, he is going to be put squarely under the spotlight, his whole world is beginning to crumble down around his ears. This is why he is circulating the TV studios and giving interviews right left and center, he is frantically doing "damage limitation". He knows if the case is merely re-opened there is a chance he will get away with it, if there is a complete review of the case, then he knows he is completely "rubber ducked" and his "free" days are literally numbered! This is why he is frantically trying to say the McCanns did not protest at the case being archived. They did actually, but this is not here is it? This is "there" back then in 2008, it is now 2010, we are dealing with the present, note how Amaral is still frantically trying to blacken the McCanns name. He is hiding something, he knows it, the Portuguese judiciary knows it and so does any half decent detective, he is sliding down the slippery slope, soon the whole world will see what Amaral is involved with.

Amaral and then Paiva were exposed for being exactly what they are LIARS, in the case of Amaral he is a corrupt and pathological liar, in the case of Paiva, who knows, I don't know whether he is scared stiff of Amaral, scared for his family and himself, scared of being set up for something he hasn't done, scared of repercussions for his family and terrified for his family's safety (this would not surprise me), or whether he is just totally inept and incompetent and suffers with arrogance and the same "misogynism" as Amaral does, or maybe he is actually involved in this with his "friend" up to his own fat neck? I have no idea, but it is one of those. If Paiva is scared of Amaral and scared for his family then he needs to tell someone, he needs to grow a pair and be strong like Ana Bras and her husband, (they were another two that Amaral was threatening and intimidating, they received threats, as was the life of their baby threatened) because not until they decided to speak out and tell the world and we managed to help them get their message out, once they did this, it brought them a degree of safety. We disarmed Amaral by making him aware that we knew what was going on and if anything happened to Ana and her family, then we would speak out and we were not scared of him!

One last thing, let's see if the fetid rabid antis like Tony Bennett, Brenda Ryan et al spam Detective Andy Brennan with their hate male and their barking mad conspiracy theories and libel, let see them physically threaten Kate McCann, Gerry and their friends and family and let's see if the imbecilic "Laffin" threatens Clarence Mitchell and his wife and children, with Brennan in charge. Methinks they are all set to become very quiet, very soon!

Bennett has already written to the Home Office demanding answers to his list of questions about the McCanns' meeting with Johnson, etc. Who was there, were their legal representatives there, etc. Apparently it's in the public interest. tonobricks

It has crossed my mind previously that Amaral is only pushing to get the case re-opened to keep the PJ in charge, and in doing so, limit the investigation of the British force.

But of course, if the Home Secretary is involved, and allowing an investigation to occur, due to the non investigation of the PJ, then he will never allow the review/investigation to be dictated by the PJ, not in Britain anyway.
