Hate campaign: A leaflet blames Madeleine McCann's parents for her disappearance

The parents of Madeleine McCann were last night said to be devastated by a hate campaign suggesting they were responsible for their daughter’s disappearance.

A leaflet entitled ‘Ten reasons to suggest that Madeleine McCann was not abducted’ was distributed to 10,000 residents of the village where they live and the surrounding area.
A source told MailOnline the couple intend to pursue legal action and may even bring in the police.

It was even sent to residents of the street in Rothley, Leicestershire, where Kate and Gerry McCann, both doctors, live with their four-year-old twins Sean and Amelie.

The leaflet was not delivered to the McCanns’ home.

The Madeleine Foundation, which distributed the leaflet, was set up by former lawyer Tony Bennett, 60, who has previously tried and failed to bring a private prosecution against the couple for child neglect.

He and his supporters have produced a 64-page anti-McCann book entitled ‘What really happened to Madeleine McCann? Sixty reasons to suggest that she was not abducted’.

Like the leaflet, it is emblazoned with a picture of the missing girl, who was aged three when she disappeared from her parents’ holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007.

The leaflet says her parents’ version of events on the night she disappeared is a ‘sheer impossibility’. It suggests it is more likely that Madeleine died in the apartment and that they covered up her death.

Residents of Rothley last night expressed outrage at the leaflet, an extract of the book, which calls for the case to be reopened.

One resident, Patricia Ball, said: ‘It sent a shiver down my spine. I did not like it at all, it had a nasty feel about it.

‘There is still a candle on the green, so every time you go into the centre of Rothley, you pass the candle and it always reminds you of Madeleine.’
A copy of the original book was sent to the McCanns’ home several months ago, causing them great upset.
A family friend said the couple were were ‘devastated’ by the campaign and may sue for libel.


Their spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said: ‘We do not wish to dignify the actions of the so-called Madeleine Foundation with any response. We do feel it is important, however, to make the general public aware that the foundation has no connection whatsoever with our family or those helping us find Madeleine or any law enforcement agencies.

‘We strongly believe the actions of this organisation do not have Madeleine’s best interests at heart. If anything, it is hampering our efforts to find Madeleine and achieve justice on her behalf.’

Last year, the McCanns expressed anger at the foundation, which they described as a fee-paying club dedicated to blaming them for Madeleine’s disappearance – members pay £10 to join.

Mr Bennett’s attempt to bring a private prosecution against the couple two years ago was thrown out by Leicester magistrates on the grounds that they had no jurisdiction over the case because she disappeared abroad.

Mr Bennett said at the time: ‘We are a group of people who want to get to the truth of what happened to Madeleine.’

I also read that the Ministry if Justice is now investigating Bennett and his Foundation AND the police and I believe the police are thinking of bringing criminal charges, this will no doubt involve the arrest of Tony Bennett, Debbie Butler, Grenville and Helene Green and all the other morons that helped out in this latest round of harassment.

This is hounding, it is harassment, it is stalking and it and the people that do are evil.

The biggest laugh I had when I read one of the 3 A cretins saying that Bennett wanted this, in order to get them into court? And the cretinous fools believe that?

However, it looks like Bennett is going to get his wish then and if he thinks he will be able to repeat his lies and unfounded, unsubstantiated accusations in a court of law whether it is criminal of civil, well you do not have to be a solicitor to know this is not going to happen!

The fool bases his booklet on the tissue of 'proven' lies that Amaral wrote and the McCanns are suing Amaral and Amaral does not have a cat in hell's chance of winning that, so he can look forward to being at least £1 million lighter.
So how does Bennett think he can win in a court in the UK, where UK law is a hell of a lot tougher and stricter than Portuguese law?
Might I remind the moron that the McCanns have not and never have been charged with any wrongdoing ever, not in their entire lives (unlike liar Bennett). They were cleared of any wrongdoing by the Portuguese Attorney General, this means in the eyes of the law in Portugal and the UK (and anywhere else) that they are totally and utterly innocent!
So how in the name of anything even half way logical does Bennett even think he has anything resembling a case?
The halfwit will not even be permitted to mention the lies in his despicable literature, if he does he will find himself in contempt of court (imprisonable offense as he well knows).

He is going to go down for this and so are all those halfwits that helped him to terrorise the grieving parents of a missing abducted child!

I hope they are all suitably scared, because if I were in their position, I know I would be!

Tony Bennett brought all this to their doors and now the and they are all going to be seeing an inside of a courtroom very very soon.

The coward hides behind the fact they offered the McCanns an opportunity (yep the audacity of it) to contest any of the information in his ill reseached book and they never replied.

SO WHAT, I suppose the slug never stopped to think it is because they had more important things to do.

Their child was abducted, why on earth are they going to read a book entitled "60 reasons to suggest why she wasn't" I mean if it wasn't so serious it would be laughable.

So they ARE going to sue? Are they REALLY going to sue? Dare I get my hopes up?

Has the halfwit Bennett not figured it out yet as to why the McCanns and their legal team NOT made comments on his booklet prior to publishing?

Just because the McCanns were aware of the leaflet (pity its not soft enough to use as bog paper), doesnt reduce TB & Co's guilt for libel.

No comment from the McCanns does not imply a tacit approval that what was written is acknowledged as correct. They are under no legal obligation to answer. And no comment does not give TB the right to print malicious lies and unfounded accusations. He should know that.

The only defence for libel is the truth.

And as one interviewer of Butler said on the other thread, the leaflet cannot be used in the interview because it contains information that other news outlets have already been successfully sued for.

It would appear that some have thought that they were immune from libel laws,just because no action had been taken. It would also appear that they were wrong.

For a supposedly legally trained person, he has a pretty poor grasp of the law. His ignorance combigned with his arrogance will cost him dear.
