Alert System already working
Newspaper 24 horas today: Search instrument of abducted children. Alert system already working. Portugal, has, from today, a alert system of children abductions, which allows to gather immediately, folowing the crime, evidences that help the location of the missing child. The system will be applied following the signature of a protocol today, at the Superior School of PJ at Loures, which will join to the judiciary and police authorities, dozens of public and private entities, among them the Lusa agency (news), ready to spread the message of abduction alert. In November, at Brussels, the ministry of Justice, Alberto Costa explained that the target of this system was "in certain circumstances, decided by the Public Prosecution Service, to reach very fast a warning which allows rapidly to identify the situations, and, as soon as possible, to search, locate and protect the child who could be the victim in a situation like that". The proposal of the quick alert system against child abductions, was a task, that Alberto Costa, gave to the National Director of PJ, Pedro do Carmo. Cases like the one of Madeleine McCann could benefit with this system.

Re: Alert System already working
Absolutely fantastic news.
But this news has been rather spoiled with the news that has just come out of Portugal, that they threw out one of M3 for following the paedophile that is of interest to the Madeleine investigation.
If people like Goncalo Amaral are allowed anywhere near this then all the alert systems in the world will not help, they just keep ignoring them.
Sorry Pedro, I really don't mean to be a downer on what should be excellent news.

Brilliant news, Pedro!
Have we got it here? If not, why not?

Re: Alert System already working
we do have a six point system Sadie and it has been in operation since 2006.
What we need however, is a coordinated system right across Europe, which is what kate and Gerry have been lobbying for.

Re: Alert System already working
Don't want to throw a bucket of icy water on you, but as Pedro correctly transcribes, it's a system to be used for ABDUCTED children, not MISSING children. That is a very significant difference and has been enhanced by both PJ National Director and PGR.
But better than nothing, which was what we had untill now.

Oh that's terrible....so they intend on only using it once they've "determined" a child is abducted? Almost misses the point.

they should assume the child missing from the first second...until proven otherwise.Otherwise the child will be hundreds of miles away before they realise he/she is missing.Whats the point in that?
if they use an alert system the very second a child is reported as missing by the family they have the best chance of finding them. If then the child turns up an hour later at a mates house then their is no sleep loss is there. The child is safe and everyone's happy.

Just like Christovao Perriera (cant remember his name) the PJ inspector, who was one of the 5 'torturers' in the recent Leonor Cipriano case and who is in charge of the missing children section.
He wouldn't add Madeleines name to the missing childrens list, because she was 'dead'.....Hmm

I agree, Claire. I find it disgusting that the PJ is willing to put national pride and stubborn-ness above saving lives. There is no other reason to explain why Amaral and others cling to the notion that publicity is damaging to a missing child investigation. It isn't, 9 times out of 10, unless you're Princess Anne or something.

Yep, Bluj, that's one of the things that I am wondering about. Any more thoughts?bluj1515 wrote:Ah yes Sadie....money....this ludicrous perception that they run a crime-less country......etc.
It's OK, I/we have run through this scenario before and I wonder if you, or any other new members, might come up with any different ideas - good to have new input!
