I pray this is the case - and I do pray that they will give access to the files. If this story is true, the PJ's should hang their heads in shame for the pain they have caused this family and Portugal should agree to an EU enquiry. The McCanns are unfortunately no closer to finding Madeleine, so I will continue to pray for them and to hold this family close in my thoughts and in heart.

funny, i just PM'd you to say this exact thing.

My prediction is (and has been for weeks) that there will be no charges, arguido status dropped (for all 3), secrecy order lifted and access given to the files.

And a new, expanded, invigorated search can begin for Madeleine.

Also interesting comment by the ex Flying Squad Commander John O'Connor. Seems we are not the only ones that think an abductor took Madeleine and had been watching the family.

Post by Rosie Sat Jul 19, 2008 1:49 am

KATE and Gerry McCann’s torment as suspects in their daughter’s disappearance will end on Monday – but with the fresh hell of Portuguese cops scrapping the search for little Madeleine.
The couple will be officially told there is NOTHING to implicate them, The Sun can reveal.

Their status as “arguidos” – or suspects – will formally be lifted. But 14 months after Maddie vanished on holiday their greater nightmare will go on.

Blundering cops will reveal they have NO clue whatsoever to what happened to the youngster. And after a fruitless probe costing millions the case will effectively be CLOSED.

Incredible

The shock move emerged a day after Portugal’s attorney general Fernando Pinto Monteiro vowed: “The Maddie case will have a solution on Monday.”

Sources close to the police inquiry revealed to The Sun the “solution” is to give up on the investigation.

Lawyers for the McCanns – named suspects ten months ago and dogged by wild official leaks alleging DNA evidence linked them – will be given access to the case files.

A source at the attorney general’s office told The Sun: “It is incredible. There have been absolutely no breakthroughs.”

Madeleine was three when she is feared to have been snatched from her family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.

But an agonising 441 days on, doctors Kate and Gerry, both 40 from Rothley, Leics, face the horror of learning the investigation is back to square one.

Expat Robert Murat, 34, last night remained a suspect, but wants his arguido status lifted shortly.

The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “All Kate and Gerry want is to be allowed to keep looking for their daughter and this weight of guilt by association removed from their shoulders.”

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/maddie/article1438976.ece

This is absolutely incredible, if this is true, God knows how poor Kate and Gerry must be feeling today. Remember the Sun has a knack of coming up with the truth in cases like this, before all the other newspapers. I am cautious, but have a feeling that this is true, it seems to fit in with everything else which is happening at the moment.

When the McCann's are officially cleared, I hope all of those that have done nothing but malign these parents and throw every nasty insinuation and accusation their way, hang their silly sorry heads in shame.

What has happened to this couple over the past 15 months has been nothing short of a barbaric modern day witch hunt. The lies, innuendos, leaks and smears and the downright blatantly untrue accusations have been absolutely appalling.

These people have acted nothing short of being terrorists, they have sought to terrorise a couple who have been bereft and in total despair, they should be on their knees begging forgiveness. They have tried to take the law into their own ill equipped hands and gormless brains, they have pretended to be people they are not in professions that would not touch them with a barge pole. They have made vindictive post after vindictive post, day in day out 24/7, they have churned their ludicrous and bizarre killing theories out with relentless macabre and mentally sick regularity and all for what exactly? In the name of a little girl who has been abducted, they have sought to persecute her parents, "Justice For Madeleine?" Justice? If there was any natural justice in this world then these people would be severely punished for the disgraceful way they have behaved, what a example they set to their own children!

What will the above mentioned do or feel when the PJ publicly apologise for their treatment of the McCann's, where will they all go then?

Will they emerge from under the stone they have all suddenly crawled under, as soon as their dubious leader knew that their game was up, they all scuttled off under their stones like cockroaches. They could not bear to face us who have been telling them all year they have got it badly wrong, but it is not us they should be worried about, it is the great harm they have tried their best to inflict on two grieving parents they should be concerned about, for it reveals the state of their dark and dirty psyche's.

I long for the day when this investigation can be started by people that know what they are doing and I pray that not too much information has been "lost or discarded".

This is a rough translation from an article in the Correiro da Manha:

A magistrate and two policies, between which Stuart Prior, responsible for the linking with the PJ, had been yesterday in the Court of Portimão to try to convince Magalhães Meneses, solicitor of the Public prosecution service, not to all free the camera proceedings of the process of the disappearance of Madeleine. One of the situations that the English intend that it is not known is the preliminary report of the laboratory of Birmingham, where if it says that " 15 of the 19 found genetic markers in a vestige collected in the luggage of the car of the couple coincide [with the one of the disappeared child].

So yet another battle starts. The request (if true) has been denied, so what better way for the PJ to save face than to read out a statement on Monday, that the investigation is to be shelved. Lift the arguido status of the Mccanns and Murat, then let loose on the public PRELIMINARY findings, which have since been discounted if reports are correct. Hoping that joe public hasn't the nouse to figure out that 15 is simply not enough to prove anything, other than the DNA could have belonged to any of the immediate family of Madeleine. Shame on you Portugal.

It is to be hoped that all findings will be made public, but call me a pessimist if you must but I feel that the Portuguese press will jump on this to save face. Lets hope that the might of the British Press comes down on the side of the Mccanns, and lets the world know what a shambles has been made of this investigation.

I can just see it -- desperate to save face, the PJ and the Portuguese press will make as much of this as they possiby can. Let's hope that the UK police (or more likely forensic specialists) will point out the facts publicly.

It's a bit like a report coming out to say that X was a initially a suspect in a murder enquiry as his shoe prints were found at the scene and not mentioning that it was later established that every second person in the neighbourhood wore the same kind of shoes.

Aaargh, makes me furious.

I hope the British press jump all over them. I’m not convinced they will release their status. In my opinion - They have gone above and beyond to get at this couple so why would they do the right thing now? Will they admit they got it wrong? Will they apologise to the McCann's?

The PJ just cannot let this go, it seems all about saving face and their egos to me. I just have an inkling that the British press is just waiting for the reporting restrictions naturally in place by means of Portugal's secrecy order, to be lifted.

We all know how the press can go for it or someone when they have a mind to! It is about time someone took the reigns of this investigation.

I read that the McCann's have another investigation team in situ now, who do not want to be named, of course the obvious springs to mind here, this could be ex SAS, hopefully it is, if anyone can hunt down what happened and bring people to book for it, it is they.

While all this flim flam is going on a little girl could still be alive and waiting to be returned to her rightful place with her family.

21st July 2008
By Jerry Lawton

MADDIE McCann’s parents last night pleaded with police to help find their daughter.

Gerry and Kate McCann have been told they will be officially cleared today over the youngster’s disappearance.

The couple have been arguidos for 10 months after Maddie vanished in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

Their spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “All Kate and Gerry want is to be allowed to keep looking for their daughter and have this weight of guilt by association lifted from their shoulders. They will make it clear that they will continue to search for Madeleine, come what may.” Yesterday a legal source close to GP Kate and heart consultant Gerry, both 40, said: “They have been told that their status of arguido will be lifted.”

Mr Mitchell added: “They would welcome this. It is not going to bring Madeleine home but one bad aspect of the case will have gone.”

But they will also be told Portugese police are dropping the hunt for their daughter.

They are closing the case as an unsolved mystery
+++++++++

i would hate to be in their position pleading for people to help find their little girl. What a terrible situation to be in.
IM pleased their status will be lifted and i hope and prey little madeleine will now be found...lets hope the privates can get their hands on those files...nothings stopping them from going to luz now and investigating this case. They wouldn't be stepping on the pj's toes as the case is going to be closed and left as a unsolved crime.

But not to worry its only the bundling pj who are closing this case and forgetting it...no one else is.

IMO, there is nothing to be upset about the PJ closing the case. After all they stopped looking for Madeleine long ago,and while the case was opened, they effectively stopped a full alternative investigation into her disappearance in Portugal. Now it is closed, there is nothing to stop another investigation. It is disappointing that it has come to this, that parents have to mount their own search for their child, where the police have failed. And it is tragic that no trace of Madeleine was ever found.

So much time wasted, and no progress.

And it is a very very good thing that the arguido status is about to be lifted, and the secrecy order is already lifted (or so I believe).

Now, it is a fresh start, with new people, lets just hope that they find Madeleine very soon.

You have worded it exactly again. I am glad they are going to admit this case is closed because without this the McCann's teams have their hands tied behind their backs, lets hope the files are handed over to allow some real detectives to do some real detective work! If this happens, I wonder how long it will be until they come up with the first real lead?

Well this doesn't surprise me, does it surprise you? Make them 'all' suffer as much as possible right to the end, what could possibly be the reason why they are not going to announce until late this afternoon? 🇳🇴

I see lardy boy's intended book got a mention this morning, how bad does this make Portugal look that they allow something like this to happen? LardyBoy

I hope when it comes out and the Portuguese authorities read it and declare he has been withholding evidence (again) they arrest him and make him an arguido and keep him hanging around for months.

They have just said on Sky that Madeleine's parents hope to be cleared within the next hour! Let's see, probably Sky trying to keep the viewers, dear Lord I have become so cynical.
