Why must it take Kate’s tears to sway doubters?
Why must it take Kate’s tears to sway doubters?
Published: 09 May 2009
MORE than two years have passed since Kate McCann last cuddled her little girl
or read her a bedtime story.
In that time she and her husband Gerry have been accused of killing their
daughter and faced public condemnation for leaving their children alone the
night Madeleine disappeared.
They have also been vilified for using publicity stunts to keep Maddie’s name
in the headlines.
Those who should have known better have taken cheap shots at these two
heartbroken parents and there was even a sort of unseemly glee from certain
quarters that the “posh” McCanns somehow got what they deserved.
Part of this was down to the way the McCanns, and especially Kate, managed to
hold on to their emotions and didn’t break down in front of the cameras in
the days, weeks and months after their daughter’s disappearance.
Missing ... Maddie as she may look now
Kate was branded cold-hearted, when in fact this very private woman was in
deep shock and having to force herself not to go completely to pieces as she
had two other children to take care of.
She shed an ocean of tears in private and there can’t be a single hour of a
single day when she doesn’t think of her missing child.
We can only imagine all her sleepless nights, wracked with grief, guilt and
pain and tortured by thoughts of what could have happened to Maddie.
Clearly both Kate and Gerry have suffered the torments of hell, but why is
there such a need for us to witness other people’s suffering in order for us
to feel that it rings true?
We all know there have been copious amounts of crocodile tears shed by
seemingly bereft relatives making TV appeals who have subsequently been
found guilty of doing away with the very person they were weeping and
wailing about.
Remember vile Karen Matthews, who faked the kidnapping of her daughter Shannon
and appeared on national news every night sobbing uncontrollably and begging
for her “princess” to be returned.
She was jailed for eight years for her part in planning the kidnap with
accomplice Michael Donovan in order to get their greedy hands on £50,000
reward money.

My sentiments exactly!
I think when they viewed Kate on Oprah, alot of people suddenly felt very, very ashamed of themselves and so they ought as well!

People who have attacked this couple should hang their heads in shame. I agree 100% with the article and have often wondered what has happened to humanity.

Lorraine's emotions are coming through loud and clear in that article. No doubt she too wept a bucketload during that interview, as did we all. And her sense of anger and hatred of the filth over on the other side of the fence is almost tangable. Well done Lorraine, for making public what we have all been feeling all along.

Hi there calcite51 I feel that humanity over in the hate site means nothing at all.
I liked this article from Loraine Kelly and left a comment there when it was first printed

ive always wonder about some peoples humanity to.Baffling.
The thing is though....those who throw stones at others in a bad situation are usually the ones to fall down and the hardest ..... and then demand the respect and support they cant give to others.
