Tavares Almeida - Goncs No. 2 literally, lol.
This man was 2nd in charge to Amaral. Amaral got dismissed and coincidently within a couple of days this man then requested extended leave! I've never quite understood why his leave was granted 3 months into a major child abduction case.
Almeida was one of the principle officers in the 2 days interrogation of Kate. This man is also up on charges in a seperate case to Amaral. As someone else said, makes you wonder what would have happened to Kate if she wasn't British, have a read:-
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A detective who interrogated Kate McCann is to face trial over accusations that he beat up an innocent man during a police interview.
Tavares Almeida and two other Portuguese officers will be tried over claims they assaulted a robbery suspect and left him with four broken ribs and severe bruising to his throat, stomach and back.
Allegedly, they bound their suspect with handcuffs, beat his bare feet with a fence post until it splintered and punched him repeatedly. Sound familiar ?
The suspect was later acquitted of all charges at trial.
Almeida is the second senior detective on the Madeleine McCann inquiry to be implicated in allegations of violence towards suspects in other cases.
His boss Goncalo Amaral was accused of helping to cover up an assault on the mother of another missing girl.
The allegation against Mr Almeida, 48, dates back seven years, when he was part of a squad investigating a Lisbon gang which sexually abused children and coerced them into armed muggings.
He was one of the principal officers in the two-day interrogation of Mrs McCann last month.
Since Madeleine vanished on May 3, Portuguese police have faced a barrage of criticism concerning the way they have handled the case.
From the start, there have been a number of apparent blunders, from neglecting to seal the country's borders to failing to secure crucial DNA evidence until months after the child's disappearance.
Kate and Gerry McCann have become increasingly angry that the force appears to have all but given up on hunting for their daughter.
The scaled-down searches now taking place are focussed on finding a body - not on recovering a snatched child.

Re: Tavares Almeida - Goncs No. 2 literally, lol.
I've reported this in another thread. It took place in Lisbon, and the victim was a railway worker
But Carlos Anjos already eased our minds: all charges against PJ officers have been dismissed so far.
