But still I cannot understand if madeleine was woken by these guys then how did they get her to keep quiet? She is a feisty little character. This is all very strange. Why would burglars take a small child? She was too young to identify them. And it is doubtful that all three were paedophiles.

Even if she could identify them. Murdering a child means life in prison, robbing an apartment does not. I doubt there are many burglars who are also murderers.
