madeleine mccann suspect was never ruled out
A British man whose family contacted police after suspecting he was involved in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance was never fully investigated, the Standard can reveal today.
The expat, who was living in the Algarve at the time the child vanished, was put forward as a suspect by his brother but detectives failed to rule him out of the inquiry.
Today, on the fifth anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance, the lawyer for her parents Kate and Gerry said she hoped the “crucial lead” will be investigated by Scotland Yard, which has launched a review of the case.
The man, who is named in police files but cannot be identified for legal reasons, was allegedly desperate to have a child but he and his then partner were unable to conceive.
His brother informed British officers the suspect told him and other members of his family that if he could not have a child he would kidnap one. The information was apparently passed on to the Portuguese authorities but the McCanns’ lawyer Isabel Duarte said he was never “properly investigated” nor eliminated from the inquiry.
The suspect — who lived in Espiche near Praia da Luz, where Madeleine vanished on May 3, 2007 — also had a boat in the marina at nearby Lagos.
Ms Duarte said the lead was all the more significant because of reports of a girl “remarkably like Madeleine” being dragged along a road leading to Lagos marina at 6am on May 4.
It was also revealed today that during efforts to track down a “significant number” of sex offenders, attempts to contact several of them were not successful and never followed up.
Ms Duarte added that police have never interviewed 28 employees of the Ocean Club, from where Madeleine disappeared at the age of three.
Church services to mark the anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance will be held tonight in Praia da Luz and in the McCanns’ home town of Rothley, Leicestershire.

Ive also just been reading a report on that taxi man who claims to have had madeleine in the back of his taxi the night after she was taken. She wore pink pj's and was said to have the mark in her eye like madeleine. But the taxi guy didn't hear until the following day about madeleines abduction so only reported after. And once again Portuguese cops brushed it off. He drive them 2 miles to a hotel where they got out,and then got straight into a blue 4x4 and drove off. why weren't any of these leads followed up more closely? dam Portuguese cops. The link below is to the recent report of the taxi guy.http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/uk/taxi-driver-drove-madeleine-mccann-three-men-and-a-woman-the-night-after-she-disappeared-7706355.html

Re: madeleine mccann suspect was never ruled out
So many leads not taken up.
Any of them could have been the one. Why were they ruled out, why were they not investigated? IF the PJ needed help due to the sheer number of leads, the they should have asked the Brits for a task force to be sent to Portugal.
Another thing. On another thread, that F*****t Gonc was going on about psychics etc. And I had no idea why. Well it seems that Crimewatch (or whatever it is called) did not pass on psychic tips offs because Leic police were overwhelmed. But passing the tips on now, doesnt mean that the police believe the psychics but because sometimes the crimiinals leave clues posing as a psychic. So it is not a belief in psychics that is going on in Britain but proper police work, something that Gonc doesnt understand.

Re: madeleine mccann suspect was never ruled out
totally agree with you dianne. The Portuguese police couldn't organize a p/ss up in a brewery let alone a crime investigation. And i have to be honest im annoyed that the British police also choose to brush parts of the evidence off...Asking crimewatch to STOP passing on information from telephone calls to them because they are being bombarded with them??? tut tut tut. Any information should be investigated, they know this!!!
And thats exactly why the yard are now investigating it,because they know it has to be done.Question is ...why the hell wasn't it done before...why was it left and ignored??...because they were bombarded with info??...That shud be a good thing, not a bad thing!!.. And every piece of info that was passed on should of been investigated by both authorities.
Poor poor Madeleine...just a little 9 year old girl yet she has been left and abandoned, and brushed under the carpet by both Britain and Portugal countless times.
I only hope the yard can solve it and bring her home.If it was my daughter heads would be frigging rolling by now for sure.
