He can't blame the McCann's for his debt either. He has been heavily in dept for years before Madeliene was abducted.

Under our law, the wife would be equally responsible for the debts, so there would be no point in putting everything in her name. Divorce means that the wife would not be liable for the debts incurred after the formal split, so maybe that is where they are coming from.

Under our law, anyone attempting to illegally minimise their assets prior to a potential damages bill is probably going to court again after being charged with fraud. It depends on the lengths they go to, and it can often lead to a tax office investigation, and further charges.

On the other hand, a particular person may simply have spent all his money on his extravagant lifestyle, assuming he has one.

All will be revealed when he loses the libel case.

I wonder about the cost of his earring diamond.

It doesn't really matter as it was deducted at source, and not left to Amaral to pay voluntarily. But if it is The Publisher's Cut that will leave another interesting bill.

Can you please confirm that the 5th item on the receipts is tax. It is 10% so it looks like a withholding tax. Is that what it is?

Does IRS stand for the Portuguese equivalent of the Internal Revenue Service? Ours is called the ATO - Australian Tax Office.

And to confirm there hand written receipts (recibo) are Gonc's, saying he received the money.

My friend, the 5th item is from Valentim Carvalhos & Filhos, yes, it is a tax.
