Seriously, he is in a loose/loose situation, and there is only one person to blame. HIMSELF!

He doesn't need to appeal, his supporters see beating the mother of a missing child and lying to cover it up as justice for the missing child just because he believes the parents are guilty then it must be true. After all the parents of missing children are bad people and deserve everything they get.

Thats the excuse being used to justify Lienora getting a beating and the hounding of the McCanns. They deserve it and they are doing it for Joanna and Madeleine.

There are two points the extreme McCann haters will always fall back on. One is is a classic and the other is the new get out of jail free card.

1/ The parents lost her so you cant blame anyone else. Available on vinyl 7" and 12" disco version.

2/ It doesn't matter if Amaral was involved in forcing confessions or beatings or lying. He did it because those he did it to really are guilty so deserve it.

He has already found to have lied about DNA evidence that he never had and what is more, he was told unequivocally that there was NO evidence on which to make the McCanns suspects, yet he still did it!

In short Amaral lied to try have his officers bully Kate McCann into confessing to something she had not done. In short he sanctioned using MENTAL TORTURE on her.

Two investigations into two missing little girls and he has concealed evidence of a tortue in one and sanctioned the use of mental torture in another, both to procure a confession.
Not only that the confession taken from Leonor Cipriano was under duress and in the absence of a legal representative, this is ILLEGAL in Portugal!

This is yet another grounds of appeal for Leonor.

I believe that Dr Aragão Correia, will have several points of law when he goes back to court and I believe a precedent will be set and Amaral's sentence WILL be increased and he WILL go to prison.

It is already becoming clearer and clearer that Madeleine was abducted and let down badly by Goncalo Amaral and there are now huge question marks over everything he has said and done in the Madeleine investigation and people are realising her parents have been done a colossal injustice by Amaral, but if the meantime the whereabouts of Madeleine becomes known, then this is going to be so bad for Amaral that his outlook will be dire. add to that he is now seen to be making money out of his lies and off the back of an innocent missing child, I would say that Amaral is finished!

Gonçalo Amaral was yesterday found guilty and convicted for perjury!

1º. The court, composed of 3 judges and 4 jurors, found Gonçalo Amaral guilty of lying and falsifying evidence in order to cover up the agents of the Judiciary Police who tortured Leonor (meaning the torture was ALSO PROVED), agents which, nevertheless, the court was not able to identify.

2º. The jury courts are exceptional in Portugal. And when they happen, the portuguese law says all the appeals must go directly to the Supreme Court of Justice, and the higher courts can NOT modify the facts the jury courts decided to be proved. This means that NO appeal can save Gonçalo Amaral from his conviction yesterday. The only thing the higher court can modify is the sanction, that is, increase or decrease the penalty.

3º. Of course, there will be an appeal by Leonor's lawyer to ask for a 3 years jail not suspended for Gonçalo Amaral 3 years is actually the maximum sentence for his crime. Nevertheless, Admittedly it will be difficult to get for him sentence that is not suspended imprisonment, since this is the first time Gonçalo Amaral is convicted by a court, and the portuguese law says that in this cases, all the convictions until 5 years of jail, should be, in preference, be suspended. But there WILL be an appeal and who knows, this is a serious case, he is suuposed to uphold the law, not break it. It has been and exceptional case so far, so there may yet be a surprise that sees him behind bars!

4º. The conviction of Gonçalo Amaral is fantastic news for Joana's family.

This is also good news for Kate and Gerry McCann. Since Gonçalo Amaral is now declared by a court as being a LIAR and has been convicted and sentenced because of that he has now officially become a CRIMINAL! This will help the McCanns case for defamtion against Goncalo Amaral.

Guilty! Lying, falsifying evidence and covering up, and his supports still back him on the dark side . Just goes to show what calibre they are made of. Birds of a feather..........CRIMINALS!

I'm sure if and when the abductor is found (or Madeleine alive) they'll still blame it on the parents and find excuses for the perpetrator.

Eta : and I'm not sure if in case I got arrested by the PJ and got a beating if I was strong enough not to confess to anything they wanted me to confess to.

Given their hero worshipping of Hewlett, (A multiple child rapist) when they do find Madeleine's abductor, they will probably errect a statue to the swine.

I watched a show on false confession on the tele a while ago.

The show said that the trick to getting the false confessions is making the victim believe that they will never get out of the room (or torture, beatings etc) will never stop unless they confess. So they do confess because they see it as the only way to stop the interrogation. That is why in the US when people are questioned for long hours (for eg 36 hours straight), the interviews are often excluded for court, as they recognise that this evidence is coerced and therefore unreliable.

At least in the US, Aust, Britain etc, there must be evidence to back up the confession. Full forensic evidence must be presented to the court, to prove to the judge that it is a real confession. This is a good policy. So even if you confessed to something you didnt do, it most likely would not get past the courts.
