The parents of Madeleine McCann were set to give £25,000 to help find missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews but were warned off by police,it emerged today.

Kate and Gerry McCann, unaware the whole abduction was a scam by Shannon's own mother, planned to use some of the Find Madeleine Fund to help the police search. Little did they know that their own daughter's disappearance in Portugal last year had inspired Karen Matthews to stage the nine-year-old's family in a
bid for money.They were on the brink of organising the donation when police - who were already suspicious of Shannon's family- made it clear no money should be handed over.

The couple's spokesman Clarence Mitchell said:'Before anything was done, we had advice from the police that no money should be handed over.'We were told about certain things that had come to light during investigations. It is beyond belief that anyone could have sought to exploit poor Madeleine's plight in this
way.'

Mr Mitchell revealed the McCanns had been pestered by Shannon's relatives, both in person and by phone and e-mail. One even banged on the door and demanded money just as the couple were leaving for Church.
'They were quite blunt - saying things like "Madeleine's family has got loadsof money and we want some for Shannon",' Mr Mitchell told the Sun.

It was revealed after Matthews' arrest that there had been a 'number ofapproaches' made to the McCanns by Shannon's relatives, either directlyor indirectly.At the time, the official reason for not donation was that 'the fund had decided against getting involved' and no reasonswere given.
The couple are now said to be horrified that their daughter's disappearance and the £1million they raised to help find her might have inspired Shannon's abduction. They are also reportedly shocked that anyone could treat a child so callously, especially her own mother.


Detective Supt Andy Brennan said: 'Clearly the McCann case was still fresh in everybody's minds. A pretty young girl that people were looking for in Portugal - then suddenly there was Shannon missing in Dewsbury.'
Matthews and Shannon's uncle, Michael Donovan, were yesterday found guilty of kidnap, false imprisonment and perverting the course of justice. Shannon, now 10, refused to go back and live with her mother after she was rescued and before Matthews' admitted she had known her daughter was alive all along.

The 33-year-old has had seven children in total from at least five different fathers.

What a complete bunch of twisted b@astards hey.....to now dam well that Shannon was safe...and to try and extort money from the mccanns this way is sick.Just plain evil. But then imo if they have no thought and
consideration for the welfare of their own child(Shannon) then they sure as hell aint going to be concerned about swindling the find Madeleine fund. Sad...very sad. They will have plenty of time o ponder on what they have done now...and i hope the inmates help them feel the pain they have inflicted on Shannon to.

For the mccanns...........im glad they were warned off by police. I cannot believe some of the antis(bubbles for sure) had the dam cheek to even suggest that Karen Mathews was a genuine distraught mother of a
missing child where as kate mccann wasn't....eat s### bubbles,i told you Karen was a liar but you just couldn't handle the truth.Just like you cant handle the truth about the mccanns being innocent.

I hope and prey for you you find her soon. I will always stand beside you two...Its plain and simple to see how much you love Madeleine.
